In November 2014, Continental received a sustainability award for achievement in technological development. The Conti Coach HA3 bus tire won the "Tires and Tire Services" category of the International busplaner Sustainability Award 2015.
This is the second time the International busplaner Sustainability Award has been awarded. It aims to recognize commendable and sustainable product developments from the bus and tourism industry. The prize is given out by the trade magazine busplaner, published by HUSS in Munich. Businesses that "combine outstanding economic success with social responsibility and environmental protection – whose sustainable actions lead to further growth and prosperity," are honored every two years.
The jury, consisting of eight well-known experts from business, science, associations, and the media, gave the Conti Coach HA3 top marks. The positive influence of the tire on lowering fuel consumption and emissions was especially praised: "This gives long-distance travel by bus significant advantages over other forms of transportation including passenger car, train, and plane." According to the jury, the Conti Coach HA3 actively contributes to improvements in efficiency, ecology, and security for bus companies' sustainability practices.
The jury made its decision by evaluating: 1. Economical success in the form process optimization and cost savings (30%), 2. Ecology through the life cycle assessment of the product (40%), and 3. Social responsibility via conservation of environmental resources, environmental protection, and workplace conditions (30%).
