General

Automatic wheel exchange detection (SWE – SingleWheelExchange): Why doesn’t the ContiPressureCheck automatically detect that a wheel with a new tire sensor has been exchanged?

The ContiPressureCheck normally detects the replacement of a single wheel with a new tire sensor automatically after driving for 5–10 minutes.

If this does not work, it may be for one of the following reasons:

  • More than one tire with a new sensor has been replaced.
  • ATL (automatic trailer learning) has been activated.
  • A lift axle is raised. The new tire sensor will only be detected when driving with lowered lift axles. This is independent of the position of the wheel that was replaced.
What pressure range is shown on the display?

The display range is between 0 and 11.9 bar (173 psi).
Note: Pressures above 11.9 bar (173 psi) are displayed as 11.9 bar (173 psi).

Tire Sensor and Fixation

Can other cleaners be used to clean the tire and rubber container?
  • As a result of internal tests performed by Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH, the use of Liquidbuffer from Tiptop is recommended (see Installation instructions) for cleaning the adhesive surfaces.

  • If any other products are used for cleaning, Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH cannot guarantee that adhesion is sufficient for the application.

  • Brake cleaner or similar substances may never be used for cleaning the adhesive surfaces since this will impair the adhesive process. Possible consequences: The tire sensor and the rubber container can become unstuck and damage the tire in the long term.

  • Furthermore, the use of brake cleaner can damage the tire.

Can adhesives other than CB2250 be used to fix the rubber container?
  • Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH recommends using Cyberbond's CB2250 to affix the rubber container on the basis of tests that they carried out specifically for this purpose.

  • If other products are used to fix the container, Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH cannot guarantee sufficient adhesion for this purpose.

My tire size is not listed as an authorized tire size in the User Manual. Can the ContiPressureCheck system be used for this size?

Can the ContiPressureCheck be used for industrial tires as well?

If using industrial tires, please contact your ContiPressureCheck vendor.

Can the tire sensors be used with solid rubber tires?

No.

Can the tire sensors be used with tube-type tires?

No.

What brands of tire can the tire sensors be fitted to?

The tire sensors can be installed in all branded tires with a rubber inner liner.

Will the attached tire sensors result in an imbalance in the tire?

No. A tire sensor with its rubber container weighs approx. 38 g.

What causes the "Sensor is LOOSE" error message?
  • The tire sensor has popped out of the rubber container.

  • The rubber container and tire sensor have come loose from the tire.

  • The tire sensor has been inserted into the rubber container incorrectly (top-first).

Why can’t I reuse a tire sensor that displays the warning "Sensor is LOOSE"?

The tire sensor is not designed for uncontrolled free movement within the tire, or for installation in the wrong position. In either case, initial damage to the tire sensor could occur during operation, which could lead to the premature failure of the tire sensor if it continues to be used.

Warnings

The warning message LOW PRESSURE appears when starting to drive, but after a while it disappears. Is the ContiPressureCheck not working correctly?

The ContiPressureCheck is working correctly. The pressure is low, which is the reason for the warning message. While driving, the tire warms up and the tire pressure increases. The increase may be enough to reset the warning automatically.

Corrective action: Set the tire to the recommended pressure when the tire is “cold”, i.e. the state in which the tire is in after having stood outdoors for several hours, not exposed to intense sunlight.

Why are several tire sensors suddenly not being received for an extended period (warning message: NO SIGNAL)?

Reception from the relevant tire sensors is in the borderline range. Temporary interference could block reception from the relevant tire sensors. Interference could be caused by:

  • A layer of mud, snow, or ice on the central control unit (CCU) or additional receiver,
  • Inverters for operating coffee machines, kettles, etc.,

  • Other electromagnetic interference.

Possible corrective action: The position/orientation of the central control unit (CCU) or additional receiver should be adjusted to bring the RSSI values for the relevant tire sensors above the recommended thresholds (see chapter 6.7 in the User Manual for the handheld tool).

Is there a warning message if the pressure is too high?

No.

Installation and Modification

How to speed up the tire sensor fetching process?
  • The tire sensor's position must be aligned with the DOT.
  • When fitting the tire, ensure that the DOT and the valve are in line with each other.
  • For dual tires, the wheels should be fitted such that the valves on the inner and outer sections are offset by 180°.

This will make the tire sensors very easy to locate using the valves on the vehicle.

The tire sensor on the inner dual tire section is not found during the fetching process. What can I do?
  • In rare cases, the tire sensor may not be detected if it is simultaneously in the inner dual tire section and in the tire ground contact area. Please move the vehicle forward or backward by half of one tire circumference, then repeat the fetching process.
  • If this inner section can be accessed directly, continue the fetching process by guiding the handheld tool directly along this dual tire. 

The fetching process was interrupted after acquiring half of the tires. When the configuration process is resumed with "Resume installation," it has to start from the first tire; why?

That is right. To avoid possible errors when allocating the tire sensors, this process must be carried out without being interrupted.

ALL the tire sensors were acquired during the fetching process. After that, the configuration process was interrupted. When the configuration process is resumed with "Resume installation," it has to start again from the first tire; why?
  • After the fetching process for the tire sensors has been completed, leaving the "New installation" menu while still in "Bird’s-eye view" mode the information from all acquired tire sensors will be lost.
  • Remedy: Once the last tire sensor has been calibrated, press the RETURN button again. A screen will appear showing the message "CONFIGURATION COMPLETED. CONNECT TOOL WITH…." Leaving the "New installation" menu after carrying out this step will not cause the calibrated tire sensors to be lost from the handheld tool. Calling up the "Resume installation" menu will allow you to continue transferring the configuration straight away.
A warning appears on the trailer while driving. After the vehicle has been switched off, the warning lamp (Pressure Check Indicator) continues to flash. Is there a malfunction in the ContiPressureCheck?

The ContiPressureCheck is supplied through KL30/KL31 (continuous supply) for this trailer. Once the vehicle has been turned off, the flashing will stop after approx. 30 minutes.

Please note: During normal operation, the ContiPressureCheck on the trailer requires approximately 60 mA (24 V) or 55 mA (12 V) of current.

Can the ContiPressureCheck on the trailer be connected to the continuous supply (KL30/KL31) as well?

Yes.

After the installation or after modification of the parameters, the configuration/modification has not been applied. Why is that?

For the ContiPressureCheck to use the new parameters, it must be restarted.

  • To do this, turn off the ignition for at least 30 seconds.
  • For trailers with a ContiPressureCheck supplied through a KL30/KL31, the ContiPressureCheck must be switched off using the main switch for at least 30 seconds.
Why is the orientation in which the CCU or additional receiver is installed important?

The recommended direction of installation ensures that the components, and in particular their cables, are better protected from road chip damage.

  • Optimum orientation of the central control unit (CCU): cable outlet facing “backward” (in the opposite direction to the direction of travel).
  • Optimum orientation of the additional receiver: impact protection pointing “backward” (in the opposite direction to the direction of travel), cable outlet upward.

Positioning and orienting the CCU or additional receiver as recommended also ensures optimum reception from the tire sensors.

How do I find out the recommended cold pressure (RCP) for the tires?

See the technical tire data book from the corresponding tire manufacturer.

Why must impact protection be used for the additional receiver?

If impact protection is not used:

  • The ContiPressureCheck system may not be used for transporting hazardous materials (ADR),
  • The additional receiver could become damaged,
  • The reception range of the additional receiver is reduced.

During a CCU software update, the display is repeatedly restarted. Is this normal?

Yes, it may restart up to twice.

During a CCU software update, SYSTEM ERROR appears on the display. Is this normal?

Yes. Once the update process has been completed successfully, the SYSTEM ERROR message will disappear automatically.

Vehicle Types and Vehicle Combinations

What vehicle types and vehicle combinations can the ContiPressureCheck be installed in?

A ContiPressureCheck system can monitor a maximum of 6 axles and 24 wheels.

Your ContiPressureCheck vendor can specify types and combinations suitable for the ContiPressureCheck.

How do I check whether a trailer is suitable for monitoring through the towing vehicle (ATL or MARRIED)?

Your ContiPressureCheck vendor can provide you with information on suitability.

Alternatively: Configure the towing vehicle and trailer as MARRIED and then carry out a test drive.

How many trailer tires can be monitored by ATL?
  • The ContiPressureCheck can monitor a maximum of 24 tires (including towing vehicle and trailer).

  • Example 1: If the towing vehicle has 6 tires, ATL can be used to monitor a maximum of 18 additional tires.

  • Example 2: The towing vehicle has 10 tires and the trailer has 16 tires. In this case, only the first 14 acquired tires will be monitored; the remaining two tires will not be taken into account by the ContiPressureCheck.

Approval

Does the ContiPressureCheck system on the vehicle need to be approved in Germany?

No. The ContiPressureCheck system has an ABE (General Operating Permit) (KBA 91387). After installation, acceptance by TÜV is no longer necessary.

What is the ContiPressureCheck system's safety rating?

The ContiPressureCheck system is not a safety-related system. It is classified and designated as a comfort system. 

Is the ContiPressureCheck system suitable for ADR vehicles (hazardous goods)?

When used for its intended purpose and when the instructions provided by the manufacturer, Continental, are followed, the ContiPressureCheck fulfills the ADR's requirements for vehicle types AT, FL, OX, EX/II, and EX/III.

Handheld Tool

Why do the date and time need to be set every time the handheld tool is switched on?

The extra battery for the handheld tool's internal clock is completely drained. Possible causes:

  • The handheld tool has been charged incorrectly. To charge the handheld tool correctly, connect the charger and then switch on the tool. After a few seconds, the screen dims and the charging symbol is displayed.
  • The additional battery will be fully charged after 48 h. This can be done at a convenient time (e.g. during the weekend).

Note: The date and time is only needed for the log files. Use of date and time can be switched off using the menu item "Setup/Tool Properties/Use date". The date and time must then be entered manually in the log file printouts.

Why can't the handheld tool be used while it is charging?

For transmission licensing reasons (homologation).

Why can't the handheld tool be switched on even when it has been connected to the charger?

The handheld tool's battery is completely drained. Switch the handheld tool on again after charging for five minutes so that the additional battery for the internal clock can also charge correctly.

Compatibility
