AutoBild sportscars names SportContact 6 best in test

  • New UHP tire from Continental comes top first time out in comparative tire test by AutoBild sportscars
  • “The SportContact 6 was totally convincing,” say testers

Hanover, March 4, 2016. In its very first test, Continental’s new UHP tire, the SportContact 6, came home in first place. On completing the test, which covered ten disciplines, the expert journalists from AutoBild sportscars awarded the super sports tire developed by Continental’s engineers in Hanover an “exemplary” rating and top slot in the rankings. To win through, Continental’s high-tech tire had to prove itself on wet and dry roads and in terms of rolling resistance. “In its first test, the SportContact 6 was totally convincing,” summed up the experts. “With impressive lateral guidance and a precise steering response on cornering (...) the new Continental SportContact 6 turned in a fine performance,” they reported. “The latest SportContact from Continental has taken the lead in the supreme discipline of comparative high-performance tire testing.”

Along with the new UHP tire from Continental, five other tires from European, Asian and American brands lined up for the test in size 255/35 R 20 at the front and 295/30 R 20 at the rear. The test vehicle was a Jaguar F-Type. “Of course we’re delighted at the outstanding performance of our new high-tech sports tire, the SportContact 6,” said Alexander Bahlmann, Head of Communications, Passenger and Light Truck Tires at Continental. “These test results provide fine proof of the ability of our new premium UHP tire to actually translate the newly developed technologies with which it’s endowed into the claimed performance improvements on the road.”

Continental first presented the new SportContact 6, its latest super sports tire for the ultra high performance segment, late last summer. In developing this tire, Continental’s engineers virtually reinvented the chemical composition of the tread strip, as well as the
tread pattern and the tire construction. Over 40 sizes are currently available from tire dealers for 19 to 23 inch rims, with new sizes being added all the time. The SportContact 6 is built at Continental’s tire plants in Korbach, Germany and Otrokovice, Czech Republic.
