Hannover, Germany / Kaluga, Russia, October 30, 2018. The leading technology company Continental celebrated today the fifth anniversary of its passenger and light truck tires plant in Kaluga, Russia. Continental's first greenfield manufacturing facility in Russia started operations in October 2013, totals EUR 240 million investments and employs by now over 1,000 employees. The guests of the ceremony, customers and employees recalled together the common achievements of the past years which made the tire plant a success story for the Tire Division of the corporation. Continental in Kaluga has continuously scaled up its tires production volume and expanded its portfolio to reach today more than 300 articles.

More than that in only five years the Kaluga tire plant has created for itself a reputation of excellence in our global tire manufacturing network, supporting with expert knowledge our other 22 tire plants. The products manufactured at Kaluga-based Continental plant have been highly rated by independent experts many times. The enterprise has successfully undergone more than 40 audits in total, and the auditors emphasized not only the premium quality of products but also the commitment and high professionalism of the team. Compliance of all manufactured components and production technologies with the global standards has been confirmed by visits of Kaluga subdivision customers to the plant. In addition, the Russian enterprise has been ranked the best company in product quality among all Continental tire plants in 2017 and still maintains its leadership position.

The tire plant in Kaluga supplies top global car makers including Volkswagen, Renault, Ford, Nissan, Toyota with original equipment products and also the Russian replacement market. Tires produced at the plant are currently also exported to 24 countries in Europe, Asia and North America. The success is largely driven by a skillful hiring of staff and employee's continuous professional development. The team of the Kaluga-based business unit has more than doubled over the last 5 years: the plant's workforce comprised 440 employees in 2013 and includes more than 1,000 staff members now. Every year, all the employees attend up to 150 trainings and mandatory courses both on site and in other plants of the company.

Sustainable development principles play an important part in the company's policy. The Kaluga-based Continental tire business unit takes significant environment conservation efforts: the plant has a state-of-the-art equipment to help reduce industrial water consumption, and treatment facilities to reuse waste water in production. Moreover, in 2017 the plant co-founded EcoTyreUnion that gears towards promotion of the tire recycling industry in Russia. So far, 8,000+ tons of tires have been collected and recycled under the program.
