Hanover, February 24, 2016.
Continental today announced a voluntary tire exchange program covering approximately 500 ContiSportContact 5 P tires in 235/35 ZR 19 (91Y) EXTRA LOAD. Due to the use of an incorrect material, the tires may develop an uneven shape in the tread area. This could potentially result in tire to vehicle contact, reduced handling performance and a limited high speed capability. To date, Continental has not received any reports of accidents or injuries in connection with this condition. The exchange program is being initiated proactively to avoid any potential risk to vehicle drivers and other road-users. The affected tires were sold to customers in Europe and solely within the replacement business.
The affected Continental tire can be identified as follows:
DOT serial numbers
ContiSportContact 5 P 235/35 ZR 19 (91Y) EXTRA LOAD
DOT CP2V N6XP 3515
DOT CP2V N6XP 3615
The last four digits of the DOT serial numbers indicate the production period (week/year). Affected tires will be replaced free of charge. No other tire sizes, production periods or product lines are affected.
Continental began notifying the respective national authorities on February 23, 2016 and is in contact with its tire dealers to organize and implement this voluntary exchange program.
