Tires from Continental

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Voluntary Exchange Program

Continental WinterContact TS 860 195/65 R 15 91 T

How do I determine whether the tires on my vehicle are affected?

Please check the tire brand (Continental), product line, size and DOT serial number of your tires. The affected tire size is 195/65 R 15 91 T. The affected article description and DOT serial numbers are as follows:

Article description

DOT serial numbers

Continental WinterContact TS 860 195/65 R 15 91 T

6GAE D29W 4118

The last four digits of the DOT serial numbers indicate the production period (week/year). Tires produced in 4118 (41st week of 2018) are covered by this voluntary exchange program.

What should I do if I have affected tires?

Affected tires will be replaced (with new Continental tires) by the tire dealer where you have purchased the tires. In case of questions, please visit our page www.continental-tires.com/car/technology/tire-knowledge for more information or contact the local organizations named on the website for details.

What about tires subject to the exchange and bought in another country than Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania?

If you feel uncertain that your tires could be potential affected as well, contact your local tire dealer so they can check your tires. Affected tires will also be exchanged if purchased in other countries. The same conditions apply as for the exchange in the four countries.

When will this exchange program start and for how long will it run?

Our voluntary exchange program started on November 29th 2018. We have informed the national authorities and are in touch with our dealers to implement the program. The program will run for an indefinite period so that tires can also be exchanged at a later date (see also item “Costs”). Nevertheless, we strongly recommend that you check all of your tires before you use your vehicle again. The tires concerned must be exchanged as soon as possible.

What costs do I have to incur?

Continental will credit the full purchase price of the replacement tire (including costs for mounting, balancing etc. if applicable) for all exchanges made until 31.05.2019. After 31.05.2019, the compensation will base on the currently valid version of the Continental warranty regulation.

Why are you having these tires replaced?

Due to the use of a not specified tread compound material, the tires could potentially have a tread separation. This could result in tread material loss with possible negative effect on vehicle handling. To date, Continental has not received any reports of accidents or injuries in connection with this condition. The exchange program is being initiated voluntarily to avoid any potential risk to vehicle drivers and other road-users. The affected tires were delivered to customers in Germany, Netherlands, Poland and Romania.

What measures will you be taking to address the condition?

The incorrect tread material was removed out of the production process immediately upon its discovery. All Continental WinterContact TS 860 tires of this and other sizes manufactured outside production week 4118 contain the correct material.

What about the safety of other Continental tires?

The Continental brand stands for high quality tires. Continental tires are developed and produced according to the highest quality standards. The safety of our customers is always our top priority. The findings mentioned above are restricted to the specific article, size and production period.

Have there already been any accidents?

No, we are not aware of any accidents or personal injuries.

What do I do if I have further questions about the program?
