CrossContact A/T²: On-Road Adventures

The great Australian off-road fantasy: research reveals one in four ute/4WD owners never go off-road

New national research from Continental Tyres reveals that while Australian Ute and 4WD owners love the adventurous lifestyle their vehicles promise, the reality is often far more suburban.

Instead of tackling rocky bush tracks or river crossings, many owners say their most challenging driving moments happen much closer to home – whether that’s hopping a kerb or surviving the school pick-up.

When surveyed, the top three toughest challenges for ute and 4WD owners in the past month were parking in a tight car park (39%), driving in poor weather conditions (36%) and dodging a pothole (24%). By comparison, just 21% said they had recently tackled a mud/water crossing or driven on rocky/gravel terrain.

Grocery runs (57%) and commuting to work (52%) were the most common uses for utes and 4WDs, compared to just one in five owners using them for camping (19.5%) or off-road adventures (20%).

The research comes as Continental makes its debut in the 4WD tyre segment, with the launch of its new CrossContact A/T² all-terrain tyres. From rough terrain to muddy parking at the local footy grounds, the new tyre is designed to handle both off-road conditions and everyday driving.

Partnering with Melbourne Demons captain Max Gawn and defender Jake Lever, Continental is putting the new all-terrain tyre to the test across a range of challenging urban driving scenarios.

From tight parking challenges, reversing trailers under pressure, to navigating unexpected obstacles, On Road Adventures demonstrates the versatility of the CrossContact A/T².

Mitchell Golledge, Managing Director of Continental Tyres Australia, said the tyre reflects Australians’ desire to be prepared for whatever the road, or the weekend, throws at them.

"Australians love the idea of conquering difficult, adventurous terrains, whether it’s a reality of not. It doesn’t matter if it it's a school run or a weekend escape, Australians want the confidence that their tyres can handle whatever comes next. The CrossContact A/T² is built to deliver that versatility."

Despite spending most of their time on sealed roads, Australians continue to buy for the adventures they aspire to have. Two-thirds (66%) say they considered off-road tyre performance when purchasing their vehicle, even though most will rarely venture beyond suburban streets.

Combining Continental’s renowned on-road performance with off-road confidence, the Continental CrossContact A/T2 is the perfect on and off-road adventure partner.

Engineered with advanced traction technology and light truck-grade construction, the CrossContact A/T² is compatible with popular Australian 4x4s and utility vehicles including Toyota LandCruiser, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Nissan Navara and Jeep Wrangler.
