Responsible Rubber – From Indonesia to Your Bike
Since 2018, Continental has partnered with GIZ to support sustainable rubber farming in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. What started with 450 farmers has grown to a 4,000-farmer initiative. The benefits?

Sustainable Packaging - From Plastic to Paper
Continental is phasing out plastic colored inks in favor of cardboard packaging and replacing plastic by sustainable paper strips. Legacy products are being transitioned to this recyclable format - because every detail counts.
Operational Activities and Initiatives
To make the production of tires even more environmentally friendly in the future, Continental is investing in energy-efficient, economical and low-emission production methods. Our ambition is to achieve carbon neutral production for all tires by 2040.
Circular Economy – Giving Tires a Second Life
Continental is pioneering tire recycling with:
- Mechanical recycling to separate rubber, steel, and textiles
- Pyrolysis to recover carbon black, oil, and gas
- Recovered Carbon Black (rCB) now used in Pure CONTACT and Top CONTACT Winter tires
- A partnership with Pyrum Innovations to scale up tire-to-tire recycling
- By 2050, the goal is 100% renewed or recycled tires—no more landfilling.
