With the invention of the first tyre with a tread-design in 1904, we created the basis for today’s tyre technology. Since then we have constantly improved the performance of our tyres from year to year. And although you probably won’t see the difference, you will definitely experience what makes the new WinterContact so outstanding.
When snow falls and covers icy streets, you can be sure that our new Triple Sipe Concept will provide reliable control and a minimised braking distance, so that you can simply enjoy your winter ride.
Since winter isn’t always white and beautiful, but often wet and slushy, we developed the Cool Chili™ Compound to optimise wet braking. With the help of our Hydro Grooves you can even master aquaplaning. So, when it’s raining cats and dogs, just enjoy a comfortable ride.
When your winter journey takes longer and longer, this tyre lasts longer. The compound with its Performance Resins and a Flexible Polymer Matrix provides high mileage and low fuel consumption. So, wherever you go: enjoy the good feeling of ‘no distance too far’.
The German magazine Auto Straßenverkehr has published in their current issue (20/2021) the Winter Tire Test 2021. The tested tire size was 195/55 R16, test vehicle was a VW Polo/Seat Ibiza.
The result is similar to the one from auto motor und sport, but the cost of the tire is additionally part of the weighting.
The test was conducted by Auto Straßenverkehr at the following proving grounds: Nokian, Ivalo, Finland (snow) and Contidrom, Jeversen, Germany (wet and dry).
Rating for the WinterContact™ TS 870: Very good
About the WinterContact™ TS 870:
+ Quiet and very fuel saving broadband Winter Tire for every weather
+ Good and well harmonized winter performance together with the ESP System of the VW Polo
+ High safety in curves on snow
+ Safe driving behaviors also on wet and dry roads
- Small weaknesses in grip on wet corners and braking on dry asphalt
The wet grip rating indicates how well the tire will perform in wet conditions, with performance graded from class A down to class E. A high grade means short braking distances on wet roads.
Reduced rolling resistance saves fuel and cuts CO2 emissions. Class A tires deliver the best fuel efficiency, with fuel consumption increasing for each subsequent class through to E.
This is the external rolling noise generated by the tire, measured in decibels. The label shows the noise level rated in classes from A to C.
In addition to these three label values, there are also pictograms − if applicable − relating to performance in severe snow conditions (3PMSF) and/or grip in icy conditions (the latter applies to passenger car tires only).
With the EU label generator, you can access the specific label values for your Continental tires.
