The Urban Taraxagum by Continental is the first serial bicycle tire made from dandelion rubber, for which we established the brand Taraxagum. The project supports Continental’s broader sustainability activities, including work on alternative raw materials and regional supply chains. Shorter distances between cultivation areas and European tire production can help reduce logistical effort compared with longer conventional supply routes, where supported by route and sourcing data.
Puncture protection
Vectran™ is spun from liquid crystal-polymer. This way a thermoplastic, multiple-thread yarn is created. As a comparison: This partially crystalline fabric is more cut-resistant than aramide and its tensile strength is five times higher than that of steel. A Vectran™ Breaker is lighter, more flexible and effective against cuts than a comparable nylon breaker. Without affecting rolling resistance.
