In the comparative winter tire test conducted by car magazine auto motor und sport (ams, issue 21/18) the WinterContact TS 860 from Continental finished on the top step of the podium as the only product to win a “highly recommended” rating. The test covered 11 winter tires in the compact class size 205/55 R 16. The journalists tested a total of 19 criteria on snow-covered, wet and dry roads, also looking at rolling resistance and tire/road noise. Summing up the performance of the Continental winter tire, the magazine wrote: “Easily controllable on snow, perfectly geared to the vehicle’s ESP system, outstanding performance in the wet, active but safe on dry roads.”
Overall, the WinterContact TS 860 scored a total of 9.1 points, well ahead of the runner-up which finished with 8.2 points. “The TS 860 was the only tire to come through the test on all surfaces tested without revealing any notable weaknesses, and with an outstanding overall performance secured itself a clear lead over its nearest rivals,” wrote the testers.
The WinterContact TS 860 is a winter specialist for more compact and smaller vehicles. The tire is currently available in 66 sizes for 13 to 17-inch rims and with approvals for speeds of up to 240 km/h – including numerous versions with XL marking indicating higher load capacity and/or a rim protection rib.
