SmartWay Fuel Efficient Tires and Retreads

The EPA's SmartWay program helps companies reduce transportation-related emissions by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency. Launched in 2004, SmartWay® creates incentives to improve supply chain fuel efficiency.

Verified Low-Rolling Resistance (LRR) Tires & Retreads

The EPA has determined that certain low-rolling resistance (LRR) tires and retread technologies can reduce NOx emissions and fuel use by 3% or more, relative to the best-selling new tires for long haul Class 8 tractor-trailers. If a tire is used on a different truck type or axle position, the tire is not considered SmartWay® Verified for that application.

These improvements are achieved under the following conditions:

These truck and bus tires are used on the axle positions stated on the list below.
Verified low-rolling resistance (LRR) tires are installed on all of the axle positions of the tractor and trailer.
All tires must be properly inflated according to the manufacturer's specifications.
