SmartWay Fuel Efficient Tires and Retreads

The EPA's SmartWay program helps companies reduce transportation-related emissions by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency. Launched in 2004, SmartWay creates incentives to improve supply chain fuel efficiency.

Verified Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) Tires & Retreads

The EPA has determined that certain low rolling resistance (LRR) tires and retread technologies can reduce NOx emissions and fuel use by 3% or more, relative to the best-selling new tires for long-haul class 8 tractor-trailers. If a tire is used on a different truck type or axle position, the tire is not considered SmartWay verified for that application.

These improvements are achieved under the following conditions:

These truck and bus tires are used on the axle positions stated on the list below.
Verified low rolling resistance (LRR) tires are installed on all of the axle positions of the tractor and trailer.
All tires must be properly inflated according to the manufacturer's specifications.
